Disclosed herein is a method for the preparation of compound (I) which involves glycidylation of compound (II) to produce compound (III) which is subsequently reacted with compound (IV) to form compound (V), which can then be transform into compound (I) by alkali hydrolysis or transesterification followed by alkali hydrolysis wherein each compound is as follows: Compound I is 2'-((1R)-1-{ (2R)-3-[1-(4-chloro-3-fluorophenyl)-2-methylpropan-2-ylamino]-2-hydroxypropoxy} ethyl)-3-methylbiphenyl-4-carboxylic acid; Compound II is tert-butyl 3-methyl-2'-[(1R)-1-hydroxyethyl]biphenyl-4-carboxylate; Compound III is tert-butyl 3-methyl-2'-[(1R)-1-((R)-oxiranylmethoxy)ethyl]biphenyl-4-carboxylate Compound IV is 1-(4-chloro-3-fluorophenyl)-2-methylpropan-2-yl]amine; and Compound V is tert-butyl 2'-((1R)-1-[(2R)-3-[1-(4-chloro-3-fluorophenyl)-2-methylpropan-2-ylamino]-2-hydroxypropoxy]ethyl)-3-methylbiphenyl-4-carboxylate.
