A fortifier for infant formula for premature babies, comprising: a protein component, a fat component and a carbohydrate component, wherein from about 10 to about 30% of the energy value of the fortifier is protein. The enrichment formula for preterm infants according to claim 1, wherein from about 12 to about 25% of the energy value of the enrichment is in protein. 3. The infant formula fortifier for preterm infants according to claim 1, wherein the protein component comprises a hydrolyzed protein or a partially hydrolyzed protein. The infant formula fortifier for preterm infants according to claim 1, wherein the protein component comprises a hydrolyzed whey protein isolate. The infant formula fortifier for preterm infants according to claim 1, wherein from about 25 to about 50% of the enrichment’s energy value is fat. The infant formula fortifier for preterm infants according to claim 1, wherein the fat component contains medium chain triglycerides. The enrichment formula for preterm infants according to claim 1, wherein from about 30 to about 60% of the energy value of the enrichment is in carbohydrates. The infant formula fortifier for preterm infants of claim 1, further comprising from about 50 to about 200 international units (ME) of vitamin D per 7.5 kcal of fortifier. The infant formula fortifier for preterm infants according to claim 1, further comprising a source of long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA) .10. The infant formula fortifier for preterm infants according to claim 1, wherein the infant formula is characterized by a pH of 4.6 or less. 11. The infant formula fortifier for premature babies of claim 1, further comprising pectin. 12.1.
