This invention relates to a system and method for wrapping a first food item 500 around a second food item 600, the second food item being placed on the first food item. The system comprises: a moving bed 200 on which the first food item is placed and conveyed to a spatula 100 in a first position. The spatula is movable relative to the bed and engages and lifts a leading edge of the first food item and thereby initiates wrapping the first food item around the second food item. Preferably the spatula blocks conveyance of the first and second food items, whereby the blocked items are rolled by the moving bed below so as to fully wrap the first food item around the second food item. Preferably the spatula is hinged to rotate so as to vary the distance between the spatula and the bed.
