An ostomy appliance 10 for receiving waste comprises (i) first 12 and second 14 walls connected to each other at or near their peripheries 15, the first wall having a stoma receiving opening 16, (ii) waste collecting cavity (18, Fig 2) defined between the first and second walls, (iii) at least one first weld portion 20, 28 positioned to one side of the appliance, which connects the first and second walls together and extends away from the periphery 15 of the appliance, and (iv) at least one second weld portion 22, 30 positioned on an opposite side of the appliance to the first weld portion, connecting the first and second walls together and extending away from the periphery of the appliance. In some embodiments the weld portions extend downwardly toward a bottom 13 of the appliance and in others the weld portions are positioned substantially midway between a top 11 and bottom 13 of the appliance. The weld portions may terminate in free ends and may have a top edge (22b, Fig 3) and bottom edge (22c, Fig 3) which are generally parallel and connected at a curved end (22a, Fig 3).
