An electrically heated smoking system for accommodating an aerosol-forming substrate is provided. The system includes at least one heater for heating the aerosol-forming substrate to form an aerosol, and a power supply for supplying power to the at least one heater. At least one heater includes one or more electrically conductive tracks (103, 203, 303, 403, 503) on an electrically insulating substrate (101, 201, 301, 401, 501). In one arrangement, the at least one electrically conductive track (103, 203, 303, 403, 503) has a resistive temperature coefficient characteristic that allows one or more electrically conductive tracks to operate as a resistive heater and a temperature sensor.
