The present invention relates to a composition comprising an extract of Alismatis rhizome as an active ingredient for preventing, alleviating, or treating periodontal diseases. The composition of the present invention has the efficacies corresponding to an extract of Alismatis rhizome having a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 156-2,500 &mug/ml and a minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) value of 625-5,000 &mug/ml with respect to periodontal pathogens. Also, the present invention relates to a composition comprising a mixture of an extract of Alismatis rhizome and an existing antibacterial material as an active ingredient for preventing, alleviating, or treating periodontal diseases.
