There is provided a robot system, such as an MRI guided robot, for use with an imaging guided robot assisted surgical surgical procedure, and a method for using the robotic system to perform such surgical procedure on a patient. The robotic system includes a robot manipulator or a global positioner, a means for operating a robot manipulator or global positioner mechanically linked thereto, and a computer having at least one network connection in electronic communication with the memory, the processor and the robotic system. The actuating means has at least one transmission line comprising a replaceable medium and a rigid component comprising a rigid piston or a combination of intervening actuations transmitted to a robot manipulator or a global positioner.
