PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy degrader which can reduce the size of a device and also to provide a charged particle irradiation system which comprises the energy degrader.SOLUTION: As attenuation sections (12) for attenuating energy, portions (11) having thicknesses which vary stepwise or continuously are two-dimensionally arranged in a plane which intersects the advancement direction of charged particles. The energy degrader (10) comprises a driving means (40) for translationally driving the attenuation sections (12) in the directions of first and second intersecting axes (X, Y) in a two-dimensional coordinate system. As a result of using the two-dimensionally arranged attenuation sections, the maximum external shape of the attenuation sections is reduced. Thus, the size of the device can be reduced. At the same time, by moving the attenuation sections simultaneously between the two axial directions, the time for movement is reduced and adjustment time for the amount of energy degradation can be shortened.COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT【課題】装置の小型化を図ることが可能なエネルギーデグレーダ、及びそれを備えた荷電粒子照射システムを提供すること。【解決手段】エネルギーを減衰させる減衰部12として、段階的又は連続的に厚さが異なる部分11を、荷電粒子の進行方向と交差する面において2次元的に配置する。そして、エネルギーデグレーダ10は、2次元座標系で交差する第1の軸方向X及び第2の軸方向Yに減衰部12を並進駆動する駆動手段40を備える構成とする。2次元的に配置された減衰部を活用することで、減衰部の最大外形を小さくすることができる。これにより、装置の小型化を図ることができる。また、同時に2軸方向に、減衰部を移動させることで、移動時間を短縮し、エネルギー減衰量の調整時間を短縮することができる。【選択図】図2
