Navedene vsadke se izpostavi atomarnemu kisiku, ki pri sobni ali nekoliko povišani temperaturi kemijsko reagira z organskim materialom iz nečistoč, ga delno ali popolnoma oksidira, oksidacijski produkti pa so lahko hlapne molekule, ki med obdelavo sproti zapuščajo površino navedenih vsadkov. Po dovolj veliki prejeti dozi atomarnega kisika ostanejo na površini navedenih vsadkov le oksidirani mikroelementi, ki so prvotno prisotni v nečistočah, s katero so kontaminirani navedeni vsadki. Metoda omogoča popolno odstranitev organske komponente ne da bi se spremenile siceršnje lastnosti navedenih vsadkov, saj obdelava poteka pri dovolj nizki temperaturi pod 100 stopinj Celzija.
