According to the present invention, a method for diagnosing moyamoya disease through detection of abnormal mitochondrial functions in endothelial colony forming cells (ECFCs) is non-invasive and economically feasible, and also enables diagnosis of moyamoya disease in a simple and precise way compared to existing methods. To this end, structural abnormality is detected by configuration factor or height to width ratio of mitochondria, or abnormal mitochondrial functions are determined such as concentration of intracellular active oxygen species, activities of mitochondrial dehydrogenase, concentration of calcium ions ([Ca^(2+)]_i) in cells, mitochondrial membrane potential, and oxygen consumption rate of cells.본원에 따른 ECFC에서의 미토콘드리아 기능이상의 검출을 통한 모야모야병의 진단방법은 미토콘드리아의 종횡비 또는 형상계수를 이용하여 구조적 이상을 판별하거나, 세포의 산소 소비율, 미토콘드리아 막전위, 세포내 칼슘이온농도([Ca2+]i), 미토콘드리아 탈수소효소 활성, 세포내 활성산소종 농도 등의 미토콘드리아의 기능적 이상을 판별함으로써, 비침습적이고, 경제적일 뿐 아니라, 기존의 방법에 비해 보다 간편하고 정확하게 모야모야병의 진단을 가능하게 한다.
