A method of manufacturing customized absorbent hygiene articles, the articles comprising an absorbent core, a topsheet, and a backsheet, the method comprising the steps of: (a) providing a set of choices designed to allow a consumer to specify the customized article； (b) receiving a selection from the consumer among the set of choices； (c) manufacturing the customized article； and (d) distributing the customized article to the consumer； wherein the set of choices is selected from: the material specification of the topsheet and/or the backsheet； the absorbent capacity, absorbency profile, and/or shape of the absorbent core； the material specification and/or design of leg cuffs, of waist bands or waist elastics, of fastening members or elastic side panels, of a raised barrier for fecal control； selection of a lotion applied to the topsheet or to the leg cuff； and combinations thereof
