Provided are: an ultraviolet absorbent that has sufficient blocking effect with respect to UV-A and UV-B and is capable of providing a natural color that is suited to the skin on which the ultraviolet absorbent is applied, said ultraviolet absorbent being suitable for use by a person with dark skin and a cosmetic preparation that uses the ultraviolet absorbent. An ultraviolet absorbent which is obtained by introducing at least one element selected from the group consisting of Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Ge, As, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Tc, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Cd, Sn, Sb, Hf, W, Re, Os, Ir, Pt, Au, Hg, La and In, in an amount of 10% or less, into A and/or B of a compound that is represented by general formula ABO4 (wherein A represents In, Bi, Ga or Gd, and B represents Ta, Nb or V).Cette invention concerne un absorbeur UV dont le pouvoir de blocage des UV-A et des UV-B est suffisant, et qui est capable de conférer une couleur naturelle à la peau sur laquelle il est appliqué, ledit absorbeur UV étant approprié pour être utilisé sur une peau mate.
