The cannula extends in a distal direction from the body and is sized and configured to be insertable between the sclera and the choroid of the patient's eye. The movable assembly is operable to actuate the needle relative to the cannula, thereby driving the distal portion of the needle along an exit axis oriented at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the cannula. The cannula can be inserted through the scleral incision to place the distal end of the cannula in the posterior region of the eye between the choroid and the sclera.
