A system for drawing a wheeled passenger support 16 into a vehicle comprising first 24a and second winches each with a spool 28, a winch cable 30a which can be wound round the spool 28 and coupled to a passenger support 16 and a motor to drive the spool wherein a control system 34 is provided which employs sensors which can monitor rotation of the two winch spools 28 to control the motors to provide an even pull on the passenger support in use. The sensors may measure the number of revolutions or rate of revolution and use magnetic indicators as part of a Hall effect arrangement. A locking arrangement may utilise a ratchet and pawl mechanism and the winches may be pivotally mounted. The device may be used to pull a wheelchair up a ramp and restrain it against further movement.
