This invention relates to a method and apparatus for assessing proprioceptionin asubject. One embodiment of an apparatus of the invention comprises twoarticulatingmembers attachable to a pair of limbs of a subject, and provides data relatingto geometryand/or location and/or motion of each limb in 2- or 3- dimensional space. Theapparatus mayinclude means for monitoring gaze direction. The apparatus may comprise arobotic linkage.One embodiment of the method comprises obtaining data relating to the geometryand/orlocation and/or motion of the limbs, or portions thereof, of a subject as thesubject performs amatching task. Another embodiment comprises obtaining data relating to thelocation of alimb of a subject, together with data relating to gaze direction as thesubject looks toward theperceived location of limb.
