A method of detecting and quantifying the level of a clotoprotein level, specifically endogenous and/or exogenous soluble alpha clotoprotein, a method of diagnosing a clotoprotein deficiency in a mammalian subject, and the level or production of a clotoprotein, specifically endogenous And/or methods of increasing exogenous soluble alpha klotoprotein level(s), expression or production, and products comprising diagnostic kits and compositions for treating klotoprotein deficiency useful for carrying out the same. The composition is constructed or formulated to enhance native soluble alpha klothoprotein production, attenuate klothoprotein damage or degradation, and/or replenish the klothoprotein level with an exogenous recombinant protein.
