A forceps, comprising:a first shaft member having a jaw member at a distal end thereof；a second shaft member having a jaw member at a distal end thereof,the first and second shaft members pivotally coupled to each other about a pivot to move the jaw members between an open position and a closed position；a trigger disposed on the first shaft member；a blade operatively coupled to the trigger such that rotation of the trigger translates the blade distally；an interference member configured to prevent distal translation of the blade when the jaw members are in the open position； anda protrusion disposed on the second shaft member and configured to move the interference member to permit distal translation of the blade when the jaw members are in the closed position.
