Pharmaceutical compositions and dosage forms for administration of hydrophobicdrugs, particularly steroids, are provided. The pharmaceutical compositionsinclude a therapeutically effective amount of a hydrophobic drug, preferably asteroid a solubilizer, preferably a vitamin E substance and a surfactant.The synergistic effect between the hydrophobic drug and the vitamin Esubstance results in a pharmaceutical formulation with improved dispersion ofboth the active agent and the solubilizer. As a result of the improveddispersion, the pharmaceutical composition has improved bioavailability uponadministration. Methods of improving the bioavailability of hydrophobic drugsadministered to a patient are also provided.
