The method involves measuring the thickness of subcutaneous fat at four points of a human body such as at right anterior level of a left middle thigh, left anterior level of a right middle thigh, right dorsal umbilical level and left dorsal umbilical level, using a calculator (4). An estimation of the total body fat mass is found based on the measurements of thickness of the subcutaneous fat. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a method of determining the body composition of an individual (b) a system for determining the body composition of an individual, having a system for determining total body fat mass of the individual.
