A medical imaging system including: a microwave antenna array comprising a plurality of microwave antennae which are spaced from one another； an ultrasonic transducer array comprising a plurality of ultrasonic transducers which are spaced from one another and interspersed between the microwave antennae； wherein the plurality of microwave antennae define a transmitting antenna configured to transmit microwave signals so as to illuminate a body part of a patient and define receiving antennae configured to receive the microwave signals following interaction with the body part； and wherein the plurality of ultrasonic transducers define a transmitting transducer configured to transmit ultrasonic waves so as to insonate the body part of the patient and define receiving transducers configured to receive the ultrasonic waves following interaction with the body part； the system further comprising: a processor configured to process the received microwave signals and the received ultrasonic waves and generate an image of the internal structure of the body part.
