The invention relates to aqueous surfactant compositions comprising one or more alpha sulfo fatty acid disalts (A) of the general formula (I): RCH(SO M)COOM wherein the radical R is a linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl radical with 6 to 18 carbon atoms and the radicals M and M independently of one another are selected from the groups H Li Na K Ca/2 Mg/2 ammonium and alkanolamines one or more N acyl glutamic acid compounds (B) of the general formula (ll): MOOC CH CH CH(NH CO R COOM (II) wherein the radical Ris a linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl radical with 7 to 19 carbon atoms and the radical M and M independently of one another are selected from the groups H Li Na K Ca/2 Mg/2 ammonium and alkanolamines water and water where specific limiting conditions are to be observed. These compositions are transparent storage stable are characterized by good foaming ability and are suitable for cosmetic products and also detergents and cleaners.
