Disclosed is a method for selecting a plant, plant part or fungus for exhibiting a reduced or absent wound-induced surface discolouration as compared to a control plant, plant part or fungus, which method comprises: a) providing a plant, plant part or fungus that is obtained from a plant or fungi population that shows genetic variation, b) optionally creating a wound surface on the plant, plant part or fungus； c) incubating the plant, plant part, fungus, or the wound surfaces created thereon in an aqueous environment to allow discolouration to occur therein or thereon； d) observing the discolouration in or on the plant, plant part or fungus； e) comparing the observed discolouration with the discolouration that is observed in the control plant, plant part or fungus to assess whether the plant, plant part or fungus shows no discolouration or a discolouration that is reduced as compared to the control plant, plant part or fungus； and f) identifying a plant, plant part or fungus that shows no discolouration or a discolouration that is reduced as compared to the control plant, plant part or fungus as a plant or fungus that harbours the reduced wound-induced surface discolouration trait.
