Disclosed herein are methods for modulating the environment of a tumor, by inhibiting the activity of the extracellular enzyme lysyl oxidase-like 2 (LOXL2). The methods disclosed herein are effective in reducing tumor growth, reducing recruitment of cells to the tumor, reducing fibroblast activation, reducing desmoplasia, reducing vasculogenesis, reducing the number of TAFs, reducing growth factor production, inhibiting collagen deposition, and increasing necrosis and pyknosis in the tumor. Exemplary inhibitors of LOXL2 activity are antibodies and siRNAs.세포외 효소 리실 옥시다제-유사 2 (LOXL2)의 활성을 억제함으로써 종양의 환경을 조정하는 방법이 본원에 개시된다. 본원에 개시된 방법은 종양 성장의 감소, 종양으로의 세포의 동원의 감소, 섬유모세포 활성화의 감소, 결합조직형성의 감소, 혈관형성의 감소, TAF의 수의 감소, 성장 인자 생성의 감소, 콜라겐 침전의 억제 및 종양에서의 괴사 및 핵농축의 증가에 효과적이다.
