PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a artificial ventilation device which improves the safety of a patient by allowing a simple and intuitive selection of a ventilation mode and a category of a patient regarding a medical ventilation device. A medical ventilator 1 includes a micro blower 2 connected to a gas circuit 3, a control means 4 for controlling the micro blower 2, a storage means 8 for storing a ventilation mode, a ventilation mode and a patient category desired by a user. And a selecting means 5 for enabling selection. The selection means 5 is a patient category selector 6 that makes it possible to select a predetermined patient category from the selectable patient categories 6, and a ventilation mode (modes 1-6) that can be selected depending on the selected patient category. And a ventilation mode selector 7 for selecting the ventilation mode. One or more ventilation mode selectors 7 are configured such that the ventilation modes (modes 1-6) are not selectable in combination with the patient category selected by the patient category selector 6.
