According to the present invention, there is provided an antimicrobial composition comprising an aqueous solution containing copper and / or zinc ions, optionally a hydroxide salt, and a phosphorous acid. The composition is additionally sprayable and bactericidal when combined with a salt of nitrite, such as sodium nitrite. The present invention may also comprise a chemical containing a phosphite or phosphonate group (PO 33- ) which is capable of depriving the formation of sclerotia at an easily achievable concentration for agricultural applications.
