The present invention relates to a novel use of a metabolome, lovastin, derived from a natural material. More specifically, the present invention relates to an atherosclerosis or inflammatory disease preventing or treating pharmaceutical composition of lovastin isolated from Stereocaulon alpinum. An atherosclerosis or inflammatory disease preventing or treating pharmaceutical composition containing lovastin as an active ingredient according to the present invention blocks an activity of NF-&kappaB with respect to an inflammation reaction, inhibits a signal delivery pathway of p38 and ERK 1/2, inhibits expression of TNFR1, and inhibits generation of a reactive oxygen species (ROS). Thus, it has been confirmed that lovastin inhibits expression of a blood vessel cell attaching molecule (VCAM-1) induced by TNF-&alpha, and lovastin does not have cytotoxicity. Thus, lovastin can be useful as atherosclerosis or inflammatory disease preventing or treating pharmaceutical composition.COPYRIGHT KIPO 2017본 발명은 천연물 유래 대사체 로바스틴의 새로운 용도에 관한 것으로, 보다 상세하게는 Stereocaulonalpinum에서 분리된 로바스틴의 동맥경화증 또는 염증질환의 예방 또는 치료용 약학 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 로바스틴을 유효성분으로 함유하는 동맥경화증 또는 염증질환의 예방 또는 치료용 약학 조성물은, 염증반응과 관련하여, NF-κB의 활성을 차단하고 p38 및 ERK 1/2의 신호전달 경로를 억제하며, TNFR1의 발현을 억제하고 활성 산소 종(ROS)의 생성을 억제시키는 것을 통하여 로바스틴이 TNF-α에 의해 유도되는 VCAM-1(혈관 세포 부착 분자)의 발현을 억제하는 것을 확인하였으며, 세포 독성이 없으므로 동맥경화증 또는 염증질환의 예방 또는 치료용 약학 조성물로 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.
