Cervical cerclage is difficult to perform due to the limited space in thecervicalarea and the challenge of preparing and compressing the cervical tissue priortosuturing. The present invention provides a medical device configured forassistancewith the cervical cerclage procedure. The medical device includes a barrierstructure toallow gripping and compression of cervical tissue and a catheter to facilitateplacementof the barrier structure. A hub is fixed to a distal end of the catheter anddefines anextension with a second void between an end surface of the hub and theextension.The barrier structure and the hub are releasably attached with the extensiondisposedwithin the first void and a finger within the second void. A wire guidewithdrawablyextends through coaxial holes within the hub, extension, finger, and a portionof thebarrier structure to fix the hub and barrier structure together.
