The present invention relates to a composition which includes a novel sulfonic acid derivative as an active ingredient and is used for the prevention and treatment of inflammatory diseases. More specifically, the composition includes the novel sulfonic acid derivative which is separated from sea urchins and has an anti-inflammatory activity and (Z)-4-methylundeca-1,9-diene-6-sulfonic acid. According to the present invention, the composition, which includes the (Z)-4-methylundeca-1,9-diene-6-sulfonic acid as an active ingredient and is used for the prevention and treatment of the inflammatory diseases, can inhibit the generation of nitric oxide, PGE2, TNF-&alpha, and IL-1&beta as well as the expression of iNOS and COX-2. The composition can also inhibit the activation of NF-&kappaB and reduce the phosphorylation level of ERK, JNK, and p38 MAPK.
