PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide probiotic compositions suitable for reducing the morbidity and duration of human disease, in particular, methods and compositions suitable for preventing disease in young children, especially, respiratory disease.SOLUTION: The invention provides cultures of Lactobacillus acidophilus and also cultures additionally combined with Bifidobacterium lactis, as well as a method for orally administering the cultures to a child at risk of suffering from respiratory disease provided that the risk of suffering from respiratory disease is decreased.
