Embodiments of a juice method and apparatus for extracting juice from a food product using a juicer cartridge are described. In one embodiment, the juicer cartridge may include one or more separate internal compartments. The foodstuffs loaded in the juicer cartridge can be squeezed by the corresponding juicer and discharged through an outlet which may be sealed until activated. Foodstuffs can be sized in advance according to various physical characteristics, and the juicer cartridge can be injected with gas to increase shelf life and reduce nutrition loss. The juicer may also be provided with a "smart" function to provide safety features, track usage and enhance operator experience.
