A method for improving quality of an ultrasonic image is disclosed. The method for improving quality of an ultrasonic image comprises the steps of: forming an envelope signal by performing envelope detection for an ultrasonic echo signal reflected from an object generating a horizontal profile indicating the average strength value of pixels having the same lateral position using the envelope signal calculating the cumulative sum of the horizontal profile according to the lateral position, and generating a lateral gain compensation (LGC) curve using the cumulative sum reflecting the LGC curve in the envelope signal and forming an ultrasonic image based on the envelope signal in which the LGC curve is reflected.COPYRIGHT KIPO 2016초음파 영상의 화질 개선 방법이 개시된다. 본 화질 개선 방법은 대상체로부터 반사된 초음파 에코신호에 대해 포락선 검파(envelope detection)를 수행하여 포락선 신호(envelope signal)를 형성하는 단계, 포락선 신호를 이용하여 측방향(lateral) 위치가 동일한 픽셀들의 평균 세기 값을 나타내는 수평 프로파일을 생성하는 단계, 측방향 위치에 따른 수평 프로파일의 누적합을 산출하고, 누적합을 이용하여 LGC(Lateral Gain Compensation) 커브를 생성하는 단계, LGC 커브를 포락선 신호에 반영하는 단계 및 LGC 커브가 반영된 포락선 신호에 기초하여 초음파 영상을 형성하는 단계를 포함한다.
