Embodiments of a negative pressure wound therapy system and method are disclosed. In one embodiment, the device includes a housing, a source of negative pressure, a canister, an antenna, and one or more controllers. The source of negative pressure may provide a negative pressure to the wound dressing via the fluid flow path. The canister is located within the fluid flow path and may collect fluid removed from the wound dressing. The antenna is supported by the housing and can communicate wirelessly with the electronic device. When the source of negative pressure is providing negative pressure, the antenna may be oriented downward toward the ground within the housing. One or more controllers may activate and deactivate the source of negative pressure, transmit first data to the electronic device using an antenna, or receive second data from the electronic device using the antenna.
