A first apparatus stores information representing synchronisation accuracy required by at least one function of the apparatus. The first apparatus carries out a service discovery procedure with a second apparatus and receives clock information from the second apparatus during the service discovery procedure. The first apparatus determines, on the basis of the received clock information and said stored information, whether or not synchronisation accuracy is sufficient for the at least one function and upon determining that the synchronisation accuracy is sufficient for the at least one function, synchronizes a clock of the first apparatus with a clock of the second apparatus. Synchronising may comprise synchronising a clock of an analogue to digital converter of the first apparatus. The first and second apparatus may operate according to Bluetooth (RTM) communication protocol. The synchronisation of the clock of the first apparatus with the clock of the second apparatus may be based partly on a clock value extracted from a frame received at the first apparatus, the frame being associated with the second apparatus, and the reception timing of the frame indicated by a marked value. A further embodiment includes the use of the synchronisation steps in a personal area network (PAN).
