A method of compensating for misalignment between an optical measurement instrument (10) and a model eye (20) includes: receiving a light beam (5) from the model eye (20) at the optical measurement instrument (10), (610) producing image data, including light spot data (400) for a plurality of light spots (410), from the received light beam (620) determining an observed location of a corneal reflex (420) from the model eye (20) within an image (400) representing the image data (650) and determining an angle of misalignment (Θ) be¬ tween an axis (29) normal to the front surface (21) of the model eye (20) and the optical axis (19) of the optical measurement instrument (10) from the observed location of the corneal reflex (420) within the image (670).
