Disclosed is a self-driven travelling irrigation sprinkler. The sprinkler includes a carriage, a fluid inlet arranged to receive a supply of pressurised fluid to be distributed, a sprinkler gun (20) arranged to receive at least a portion of the pressurised fluid received by the inlet connector and to distribute the pressurised fluid over a distribution area, an impeller capable of rotation when exposed to at least a portion of the pressurised fluid received by the inlet connector through a drive jet nozzle toward the impeller, and a winch and drive cable assembly. The winch and drive cable assembly is linked to the impellor to reel in the drive cable and move the apparatus over a distribution area.
