A closure system for a horse rug which holds the sides of the horse rug 13 and 14 snugly over the chest of the horse. Straps 16, 17 which may have a pre-determined breaking strength, preferably following the groove of the horses neck located on each side of the horse rug are attached to a separate connector plate 18 which contains slots 24, 25 for feeding the straps through. Additional straps may be used to attach to the connector or other attachment means may be provided. The straps may attach using tabs and a hook and loop system.
