The object of the invention is a method and an apparatus for cutting a tree. In the method a delimbing & crosscut device (1) cutting branches and able to cut the trunk of a tree is controlled upwards along the trunk of a tree intended to be removed and when it ascends to cut the branches of the tree that are in its way. The delimbing & crosscut device (1) is controlled to ascend and descend along the trunk of the tree step-by-step by alternately increasing and shortening the length of the delimbing & crosscut device (1). In connection with the removal of a tree that is in an inclined position, such as a tree that has fallen onto an electric line, a pulling rope (7) is fixed to the delimbing & crosscut device (1) for pulling said rope up into the tree, by means of which pulling rope (7) the tree is pulled upright or off the electric line.Cette invention concerne un procédé et un appareil utilisés pour couper un arbre. En cas délimination dun arbre en position inclinée, par exemple un arbre tombé sur une ligne électrique, un câble tracteur (7) est fixé à loutil débranchage et de coupe (1) pour être attaché à larbre en vue de tirer sur celui-ci et le remettre en position droite ou lécarter de la ligne électrique.
