Echinococcus granulosus is a parasite which infects humans and animals and causes the disease Cystic Echinococcosis (CE). It causes the formation of ˜cysts™ in humans (mainly in liver and lungs), which has serious physiological effects and if left untreated, can be fatal. Treatment is very expensive, involving surgery or chemotherapy. Chemotherapy has limitations of toxicity beyond a particular level and also ineffectiveness at times. The present invention discloses 2 novel amide based compounds - N-p-tolyl-1-naphthamide and 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluoro-N-p-tolylbenzamide, which exhibit anti-echinococcal activity and can be used in development of potent drugs against the parasite owing to high efficacy and low toxicity.
