PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly safe parakeratosis inhibitor, a pore-contracting agent, an agent for preventing and ameliorating skin roughness and an external composition for the skin, which are excellent in functions such as suppression of parakeratosis, contraction of pores and prevention, amelioration, etc., of skin roughness and causes no safety problems such as sensory irritation.
SOLUTION: The external composition for the skin comprises at least one compound chosen from the group consisting of a pyroglutamic acid derivative of formula (1) (wherein X is H, a 1-3C alkyl group, an aryl group, a benzyl group, a benzyloxycarbonyl group or a benzenesulfonyl group and Y is OH, a 1-3C alkoxy group or a group of the formula: NR
