The present invention relates to: a gait aid that senses the direction and the speed, a user wants to walk in, by an electromyography sensor part, calculates the driving speed and the direction, drives driving wheels and direction control wheels, enables the user to walk as he or she wants, and is controlled by using an electromyography sensor； and a method for controlling the same. The gait aid includes: an electromyography sensing unit which senses voltages and currents of electromyography from the electromyography sensor attached on an arm of the user； a central processing unit that senses the twist direction of the arm or a twist degree of the arm based on a sensor value input from the electromyography sensing unit and calculates the driving direction or the driving speed； a direction controlling unit which controls the progress direction according to the driving direction calculated by the central processing unit； and a drive controlling unit which controls the progress speed according to the driving speed calculated by the central processing unit. Accordingly, a user can lean on the gait aid enough to comfortably walk as the direction of the gait aid is changed according to the twist direction and the twist degree of the arm supported by the gait aid. Moreover, load on the gait aid is well distributed even when the user walks fast so that the user can more comfortably walk.본 발명은 근전도 센서감지부로부터 보행자가 걷고자 하는 방향과 보행 속도를 감지하고 이를 구동 속도와 방향으로 산출하여 구동 바퀴와 방향 제어 바퀴를 구동하여 보행자의 보행 의지에 맞게 진행하게 하는 근전도 센서를 이용하여 제어하는 보행 보조기 및 그 제어방법에 관한 것이다. 본 발명은 근전도 센서를 이용하여 제어하는 보행 보조기는, 사람의 팔뚝에 설치한 근전도 센서로부터 근전도를 전압이나 전류로 감지하는 근전도센서 감지부와 상기 근전도 센서부로부터 입력 받은 센서값을 통해 팔뚝의 뒤틀림 방향이나 뒤틀림 정도를 감지하여 구동 방향이나 구동 속도를 산출하기 위한 중앙처리장치와 상기 중앙처리장치로부터 산출된 구동 방향에 따라 진행 방향을 제어하는 방향제어부와 상기 중앙처리장치로부터 산출된 구동 속도에 따라 진행 속도를 제어하는 구동제어부를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다. 이를 통해 보행 보조기에 의지된 팔뚝의 뒤틀림 방향과 정도에 따라 방향이 바뀌게 되어 보다 보행 보조기의 의지되는 힘을 많이 실어 편한 보행을 할 수 있게 하는 효과가 있다. 또한, 빠른 속도에서도 보행 보조기에 의지된 힘의 분산이 많이 이루어져 보다 편한 보행을 할 수 있게 하는
