Desensitizing with action against the formation of tartar composition for the care of the oral cavity, containing an acceptable oral carrier； an effective desensitizing and anti-calculus amount of tetra-substituted potassium pyrophosphate present in an amount of from about 3 to about 6 wt.% of the weight of the composition, and an amount of sodium tripolyphosphate in an amount of about 1% to about 10 wt. % by weight of the composition, where the tetra-substituted potassium pyrophosphate consists of a single potassium salt in the composition. 2. The composition according to claim 1, in which the tetra-substituted potassium pyrophosphate is present in an amount of from about 4 to about 5 wt.% By weight of the composition. The composition according to claim 2, in which the tetra-substituted potassium pyrophosphate is present in an amount of about 4 wt.% By weight of the composition. The composition according to claim 1, in which sodium tripolyphosphate is present in an amount of from about 1 to about 5 wt.% By weight of the composition. The composition according to claim 4, in which sodium tripolyphosphate is present in an amount of about 7 wt.% By weight of the composition. The method of removing tartar from the surface of the teeth, comprising contacting the surface of the teeth in the oral cavity with the oral composition for oral care according to claim 1.7.
