PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator capable of preventing quality deterioration of frozen articles by safely and highly efficiently generating an electric field.SOLUTION: A pair of electrode plates 21 for generating an electric field in a freezing chamber 5 is composed of an upper electrode plate 21a arranged on an upper part of the freezing chamber 5 and a lower electrode plate 21a arranged on a lower part of the freezing chamber 5, and at least the upper electrode plate 21a is not exposed to a storage space of the freezing chamber 5. Consequently, a distance between the electrode plates 21a, 21b can be narrowed and an electric field can be efficiently generated in the freezing chamber by a low application voltage. Further, a distance between an outer case 2a of a refrigerator 1 and the electrode plates 21 can be separated, so that influence of the outer case 2a made of a steel plate can be reduced and the electric field can be efficiently generated. Further, contact of a human body or the like with the electrode plates 21 can be prevented and safety when taking in/out a frozen article X can be improved.
