A positionable handle device for use with a wheelchair comprises a firstmember attachable to an existing handle of the wheelchair, a second memberpivotally connected to the first member and, a locking mechanism to lock thesecond member in either a first upwardly extending position or a seconddownwardly extending position. The locking mechanism comprises a first tenonextending from the first member, a second tenon extending from the secondmember, and a slidable mortise into which the first and second tenons dispose.The mortise contains a first aperture extending therethrough and a secondapertureat least partially extending inward from a lower portion of one sidecontaining thesecond tenon. The mortise is positionable between a lowered and raisedposition.When in the lowered position, the mortise locks the tenons in place. When intheraised position, the mortise permits the second tenon to pivot.
