A heating media is transferred (303) through the heat exchanger such that heat is passed from the heating media to the liquid food, for heat treating the liquid food. A flowrate of the heating media is monitored (305) and the transfer of liquid food is discontinued (309) if (307) the flowrate of the heating media is below a predetermined flowrate value.
