PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mount an accelerator on a gantry so as to be movable over positions of a range around a patient on a patient support.SOLUTION: An accelerator is configured to produce a proton or ion beam having an energy level sufficient to reach any target of a patient from positions within the range around the patient. The proton or ion beam passes through directly from the accelerator toward the patient.
