A feeding bay cover (10) comprising: a first animal restraint portion (50) and a second cover portion (70) rigidly interconnected and respectively located on opposite sides of a pivot axis (54), as to be moveable between a first position (Fig.1) in which the animal restraint portion (50) is lowered and the cover portion (70) is elevated to provide a barrier between the animal (16) and machinery (20)； and a second position (Fig.2) in which the restraint portion (50) is elevated and the cover portion (70) projects over the feed passage (18) to protect the feed from the elements, spreading and birds. The cover may have a removable reinforced plastic sheet 72 to protect the feed and also may be provided with a rubber strip (76) to prevent the feed spreading and access by birds. The feeding bay cover is ideally balanced about the pivot (54) to reduce the effort needed for manual activation, but a motor or other actuator may alternatively be provided.
