The present invention provides an optimized and/or enriched hydrolyzabletannoid blendderived from Terminalia chebula. In an embodiment the present inventionfurther relates to theuse of an extract of Terminalia chebula for treatment of osteoarthritis. Inanother embodiment, aT chebula extract composition contains about 8-25% by weight chebulagic acid,about 15-30%by weight chebulinic acid and about 10-40 % by weight other low molecularweighthydrolyzable tannoids. This embodiment provides a T chebula enriched tannoidblendcomposition (TC/enriched tannoid blend). In another embodiment, a method oftreatingosteoarthritis in an individual is provided, comprising administering to theindividual in needthereof a therapeutically effective amount of the T.chebula extractcomposition. In yet anotherembodiment, a method of reducing pain and inflammation in an individualafflicted withosteoarthritis is provided, comprising orally administering to the individualin need thereof atherapeutically effective amount of the Tchebula extract composition.
