Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Untersuchung von extrazellulären Körperflüssigkeiten auf die Anwesenheit des Y-Box Proteins YB-I und Fragmenten davon, die von der Zelle sekretiert werden, zur Bestimmung von entzündlichen Vorgängen und malignen Erkrankungen in Säugetieren. Die Erfindung umfasst des Weiteren die Verwendung von YB-I als Marker und ein Detektionskit für den Nachweis von YB-I und Polypeptidfragmenten von YB-I sowie Kombination davon.
