The invention relates to methods of treating fungal infections by administering to the respiratory tract of a patient in need thereof an effective amount of an anti-fungal agent, preferably itraconazole, wherein said anti-fungal agent is administered in an amount sufficient to concurrently achieve a) a lung concentration of anti-fungal agent of at least 500 ng/g or ng/mL and b) a plasma concentration of anti- fungal agent of no more than 25 ng/mL.
