Furfural is produced from a xylan-containing lignocellulosic feedstock which is contacted with water in the presence of an acid catalyst. Specifically, the catalyst is sulfuric acid characterized by a room temperature pH in the range of about 0.2 to about 0.6. The use of sulfuric acid in place of phosphoric lowers costs and avoids the high viscosity of very low pH phosphoric acid.Du furfural est obtenu à partir dune charge dalimentation lignocellulosique contenant du xylane, qui est mise en contact avec de leau en présence dun catalyseur acide.
